Resources for creating your website
Building your website is a fluid process, putting pieces together to create a final product. If you're looking for sources to help you create the individual elements that make up your site, here's some recommendations.
Web Hosting
Your new website will need a place to live, so you'll need web hosting. Web hosts provide the server space for your site files, as well as your email accounts for your domain.
Bluehost. We currently use Bluehost to host our sites, and are pleased with the service and support we receive.
Custom photography
If your site sells products, shows your team members, or showcases services like landscaping, we strongly suggest the use of a professional photographer. While it's easier to snap your own photos, professional photography will promote a visitor's confidence in your brand.
Melanie Humble. Melanie specializes in landscape, product and macro photography as well as portraiture. Melanie's work is featured throughout our site designs.
Stock Photography/Illustration
Illustration and photography can add to the look and feel of your site. While there are many sources and price ranges of stock photos and graphics online, here's two sources that feature quality images at the low prices that you may need for your small business.
iStockphoto. Prices start at less than $2.00, and we especially like the great illustrations we find here.
BigStockPhoto. Like iStockphoto, BigStockPhoto has stock photography starting at less than $2.00. Many images featured in our designs are purchased from BigStockPhoto.
Training
You won't need to know how to write HTML or CSS, or how to build a Drupal site, when you purchase your website from Wavebrain. These topics are also so broad that we don't provide training on them, beyond what you will need to update your own site. If you want to dig deeper into coding, or even learn Photoshop to learn to manipulate your images, try this resource.
Lynda.com. We used Lynda.com ourselves when we needed introductory training to the Drupal CMS. Prices are based on monthly subscriptions, and you can take as many lessons as you like for a low monthly fee.
Print Collateral
It's likely that you'll need more than just a website to promote and grow your business. Wavebrain focuses solely on websites, so if you find yourself in need of business cards, letterhead, brochures, flyers or other collateral material, look for a professional print designer who understands your business needs.
Rage Creative. Aaron Wolske is a talented art director who creates logos, stationery packages, brochures, marketing materials and more.
